Tonsilectomy and Adenoidectomy

Owen is scheduled for surgery for October 23rd. He will be having both his tonsils and his adenoids removed. The specialist was concerned about the size of each of these plus concerned about the apnea getting worse. Of course, we are scared because he is so young and also because he will be in pain and no parent wants to see their child in pain. But, on the bright side of things, Owen has a high tolerance for pain and has always seemed to bounce back from pain fairly easily. Hopefully that will ring true with this surgery as well. He will be admitted on that Thursday and will stay in overnight to make sure that he is taking in fluids and then if he is, he will be able to come home and recover. Recovery takes about a week or two. The apnea should be resolved after this procedure. Neither Daniel nor I have ever had our tonsils removed or know anyone who has had them removed so young. If anyone has any pointers, let us know!

I had my tonsils removed at a young age, but not that young. The good thing is the younger the better, they say the young ones heal faster. Lots of liquids will be good, but I'm sure they will tell you that. The good part is he will sleep so much better from then on!

Poor little dude! I'm so glad the doctors know what's wrong and are taking care of it, though! Warm wishes for a speedy recovery, Owen!!!

I wish I could give Owen a big hug before and after surgery. Grandpa has obstructive apnea, and I'm praying he can get rid of his without a lot of pain.

It must be hard for Mom and Dad to let someone carve on his throat even if it will help in the long run. I'm sure the doctors would be ready to shoot me by now if I were his dad. I'd be worried sick. I'd be a huge pain in their necks with all my second guessing and questions -- and I wouldn't care that they didn't like it.

I'll be praying for your whole family and the doctors and the nurses.

Love,
Grandpa Weber

I had my tonsils out but not at the age Owen is. I remember being about 4 years old when it did happen. I hope he recovers fast from it!
